from Mum Bett to Elizabeth Freeman

Bette:
allegedly born in 1742 in Claverack, NY and then worked for the Hogeboom family until Hanna, Pieter Hogeboom's daughter married John Ahsley in 1735. Bett, at some point, then became the alleged property of the Ashley's and moved with them to Sheffield, Mass. Her parentage is presumbaly unkown, although according to Royal Navy and the Slavers: Suppression of the Atlantic Slave Trade,  it is likely that she was born of
